Anyone have input on comparing the 2 processes? In order to do permanent resident you still have to have a work visa and the settlement funds, right?
I think I can handle the settlement fuinds, but that AND the 6-8thou for legal fees puts things off for a long while...

Re: permanent resident vs. immigration
Fri, January 26, 2007 - 6:18 PMI'm not getting the distinction - in order to be a permanent resident, you have to immigrate. Do you mean, like getting residency versus just getting a work visa?
Also... it's a couple thou for the settlement - but I don't see why you would need to pay a lot of legal fees. Unless you have extraordinary circumstances, all the paperwork can be handled without a lawyer.

Re: permanent resident vs. immigration
Sat, January 27, 2007 - 4:59 AMAre you serious????? 6 to 8 THOUSANDS????????????????? No way !!!!!
You must have hired a lawyer, huh... I sympathize deeply.
I am a Canadian who got a Permanent Residency, or Green Card to move from Canada to USA (the other way around). I did all the paperwork myself and it only cost $1,500 US. The paperwork is easy once you have done it, it is just that it is a pain in the butt and a lot of details. Maybe you would save a lot of $$$ by going online or having a friend explain to you what to do?
Good luck.

Re: permanent resident vs. immigration
Mon, April 23, 2007 - 4:40 PMHowdy!
If you want to immigrate to Canada (and thus obtain status in Canada as a Permanent Resident), then I suggest reading this: www.cic.gc.ca/manuals-gui...op/op06e.pdf
Immigration Canada provides a very clear guide for letting you know how to apply and what you'll need. Good luck!
